Navy SPS:

The Navy Shipboard Protection System incorporates the J-8 and WISS camera systems.
Systems will be installed on all Navy Surface Combatant Ships (CVN, CG, DD, FF)

System designed to allow for integration into any existing or developmental navigation, fire control, video surveillance etc. shipboard system.

Can be linked to multiple camera systems or operate independently

Function and Performance (FOV):

The J-8 pan/tilt camera assemble houses two separate cameras; one high resolution color CCD camera with constant focus lens and one IR 150mm, 25 micron pitch uncooled microbolometer camera (8-12 micron spectral response) The color camera has a HFOV of 34 degrees while the IR camera has a HFOV of 43 degrees. Optical Performance:

The J-8 pan/tilt camera has the ability to detect a 3 meter rib boat size target at 2000-2500m in the adverse conditions (10 line pairs when target traveling 25 Knots). Slew rates from 0.01-60 degrees/sec

Video Output:

The J8 has a single RS-170 video output. Only one of the two cameras can be viewed at a given time. Even though both cameras are powered during J8 pan/tilt operation, the operator must select the camera to be viewed via the joystick controller.

Weight:

The J-8 pan/tilt camera assembly weights 196 lbs/90 kg.
The joystick controller assembly weighs 2lb.
