J8 Camera System

J8 Camera System

The J-8  is designed as a LRU (Line Replaceable Unit) system meaning the basic pan and tilt chassis can accommodate any number of electro-optic and/or thermal imaging camera systems to meet the needs of the customer. The J8 sensor package contains an integrated Electro-Optical (EO) camera for visible spectrum target detection and identification functions and a Long Wave Infrared (LWIR) microbolometer for night target detection and identification operations. This day/night operations capability is integrated into a ruggedized pan-tilt platform that is weather-sealed to satisfy all marine environmental qualifications (i.e. IP-67 and NEMA 4X) and meets the required MIL STD’s. The J8 sensor is integrated into a no-maintenance pan-tilt chassis that is RFI-shielded and dry nitrogen charged to prevent fogging and moisture formation. The optics are recessed within the chassis to minimize water droplets and heated to prevent ice formation and enable operating within temperature extremes. The chassis is mounted on a continuous 360° pan base with a tilt range of motion between +90° elevation and -90° depression. The J-8 is an integrated, high performance EO/IR sensor whose primary function is to provide target detection, identification and tracking data. It was designed to perform these critical functions during any of the three shipboard operational conditions defined as: dockside, at anchorage and while underway.
